Why is porcelain such a great choice for veneers?
Porcelain is strong, durable and natural-looking as a cosmetic dentistry material. It can be molded to fit the specifications of your damaged tooth, and shaded to match your natural tooth color. Can veneers break or chip?
Porcelain veneers are extremely strong when bonded to teeth, but they are not immune to damage. Like natural enamel, they can break or crack under certain circumstances. To keep your veneers looking good and functioning well, we recommend that you avoid hard foods with the potential to cause damage. Also, avoid chewing on objects like pens and pencils that can cause wear and tear or injury. You should visit us at least twice a year to ensure optimum dental health and report any signs or symptoms of a problem. Also remember to brush and floss veneered teeth just like the rest.
Will I need to replace porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers can last 10 years or more, or a lifetime for patients who take care of them; however, like natural teeth, they will undergo a certain amount of normal wear. Depending on the foods you eat and your dental hygiene practices, the longevity of veneers will vary for each patient.
Are Empress veneers preferable to Lumineers?
If you’ve heard of Lumineers in Calgary, we think you should consider Empress veneers. We feel that ISP Empress® veneers offer the most natural and attractive results. Using Lucite glass-ceramic porcelain, this brand combines the principles of translucency and shading to deliver results that are highly impressive. The shade control available with Empress veneers is simply unmatched, not to mention their versatility. Lumineers may work in some situations but to maintain the natural contour of teeth, we prefer to use Empress veneers. Surface detail and texture is so lifelike, you may even forget they’re veneers! We also use Empress material for inlays and onlays and crowns as well as porcelain.
