Tooth Colored Fillings / White Fillings
Where Your Smile Begins
Calgary, Alberta
Metal doesn’t have to be a part of your smile. With tooth-colored fillings, you don’t have to choose between having a beautiful smile and having teeth that are strong and durable.
Fillings made from ceramics can help out a tooth in trouble due to decay or injury, or replace outdated fillings that have caused tooth damage. At Southcentre Dental Clinic in Calgary, Dr. Cload provides tooth-colored fillings so patients can restore original tooth strength and protect teeth from decay and damage. The composite material we use for our white fillings is completely safe and does not carry some of the risks that metal fillings can. Countless Calgary patients have come to us to replace unattractive metal restorations with state-of-the-art white fillings.
The White Filling Procedure
The white filling procedure is simple and painless. Our LVI-trained cosmetic dentist will walk you through the steps and make sure you are comfortable. First, any decay is removed from the damaged tooth. Then, the tooth is prepared with a mild solution. The composite material is placed layer by layer, and then hardened with light technology. The filling is then shaped and polished. You’re left with a newer, stronger tooth that can last several years.
The Problem With Metal
Amalgam fillings, usually composed of silver and mercury, can cause tooth problems down the road. Metal contracts and expands as it is exposed to heat and cold, and this property can cause teeth to crack or break. Metal fillings can leak and darken over time, as well. Metal is simply not a material that fits well with natural enamel. There’s also the issue of appearance. Many of our Alberta patients prefer not to let dark metal fillings into their pearly white smiles. Tooth-colored fillings get the job done and let your smile stay uniform and bright.
For patients who have larger areas of decay than can be corrected with a white filling, a porcelain onlay or inlay may offer a better alternative.
