Epworth Test - Sleep Apnea

Calgary, Alberta

One of the side effects of sleep apnea is sleep deprivation. While you may not notice incidents of waking up through the night, daytime sleepiness is a tell-tale sign of sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. When you experience daytime sleepiness combined with complaints of snoring from loved ones, sleep apnea is usually the cause. Calgary cosmetic dentist, Dr. Steven Cload, uses the Epworth Test as a quick and easy way to rate daytime sleepiness in his patients.

The Epworth test rates your sleepiness on a scale. It is a very basic initial screening tool that helps Dr. Cload determine if you are sleep deprived. As simple as it appears, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale is very revealing and has become the world standard for measuring daytime sleepiness and has proven to be very effective in determining whether or not a person suffers from sleep apnea.

Dr. Cload uses the test as a starting point to determine if you need further testing for sleep apnea. If the results of the Epworth Test combined with the symptoms you describe indicate sleep apnea as a likely source of your problems, you can proceed to the Apnea Risk Evaluation System™ (AREAS) to reach a more conclusive diagnosis.

Left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to life-threatening health problems. Sleep deprivation increases your likelihood of auto accidents and other accidents and can cause problems with memory, judgment, and mood swings. Please take a minute to take the test below:
