The Difference between Neuromuscular Dentistry and Cosmetic Dentistry
While general dentistry focuses more on general oral hygiene and procedures, neuromuscular dentistry focuses on correcting misalignment of your jaw, which can cause extremely painful headaches, toothaches, shoulder and neck pain, and earaches. In addition to his cosmetic services, Neuromuscular Dentist, Dr. Steven Cload also practices neuromuscular dentistry at his Calgary clinic- helping his patients find relief from pain that is the result of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD/TJD).
How is TMD/TJD Diagnosed?
Neuromuscular dentists use a wide variety of techniques to diagnose TMD/TJD- from basic to technologically advanced methods. You should visit Southcentre Dental Clinic if you have any pain, such as:
- Headaches or toothaches
- Shoulder or neck pain
- Earaches or tinnitus
- Pain behind the eyes
Dr. Cload will then examine the muscles of your head, neck and jaw to determine if you have any triggers or muscle spasms that may be causing the pain. At Southcentre Dental Clinic, we also used advanced technology such as computer diagnostics to take minute measurements of your jaw and to track your jaws movement. By taking three-dimensional measurements, we are best able to determine your jaws movements and the best manner of treatment.
How is TMD/TJD Treated?
Dr. Cloads primary concern when treating a patient with TMD/TJD is the patients comfort. Dr. Cload will work with each patient to determine the best course of treatment.
Treatment of TMD may involve the creation of an orthotic that fits to the patients teeth, which can then help realign the jaw, relieving the patient of the symptoms. Other treatment procedures may include:
- Reshaping the enamel of the teeth
- Permanent orthotics
- Porcelain veneers and layering
- Orthodontic correction, such as braces or Invisalign®
If you are experiencing any pain, you should visit Dr. Steven Cload, who is highly trained at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in the field of neuromuscular dentistry.
Dont hesitate any longer to get relief for any of the symptoms that have been listed above. Neuromuscular Dentist, Dr. Cload and his team want to help you to get the relief you are looking for.
