Dental Implant Procedure - Implant Dentistry

Where Your Smile Begins
Cosmetic Dentistry in Calgary Cosmetic Dentistry for Calgary, Alberta

The only permanent solution for a missing tooth is a dental implant. Because dental implants are inserted directly into your jaw, they provide a much stronger, more secure hold for a false tooth than options such as dental bridges. Once dental implants have been accepted into your jaw, they are stronger and more reliable than the roots of your natural teeth. To ensure maximum comfort, healing and security, the process for dental implants may take up to six months.

Dental Implant Procedure

The type of dental implant that will best suit your needs will determine the length of your procedure. Your first visit will include an examination of the structure of your jaw, and will be used to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. If you are not a candidate due to insufficient jaw density, Dr. Cload will discuss other tooth replacement options with you.

During your second visit, the dental implant will be placed. With the exception of mini implants, this will include drilling a small hole into your jawbone into which the implant will be inserted. After the implant has been placed, you will be fitted with a temporary crown and the process of healing will begin. Your jawbone needs to accept the implant as a part of its natural structure. This portion of the dental implant procedure can take up to six months, but is necessary to ensure a permanent solution for missing teeth.

After your dental implant has been integrated into your jawbone, you will return to our comfortable Calgary, Alberta office to have an abutment placed. The abutment is the titanium screw that will hold your dental implant in place. During this visit we will also make an impression of your teeth and send it to our dental lab partners who will create your permanent crown.

Once your crown has been custom created to precisely match your adjacent teeth, you will return to our office for a final placement. After this tooth has been placed, you will immediately be able to enjoy renewed function and symmetry, and be able to go forward with a beautiful, fully restored smile.

The process for dental implants may take longer than other tooth replacement options. However, as the strongest and most secure method of tooth replacement, the wait is well worth the end results.
