What Is Neuromuscular Dentistry?
Misalignment of the jaw can be the source of pain in a variety of your body parts; you may suffer from headaches, jaw pain, shoulder pain, ringing of the ears, and popping of the jaw. Neuromuscular dentistry is the field of dentistry that focuses on the muscular mechanics of your face and jaw and how to treat pain that may be the result of a poor jaw alignment (malocclusion).
In order to determine whether or not your jaw is misaligned, Dr. Cload will use the latest in neuromuscular dentistry technology to create computer imagery of your jaw that tracks its movements. This process helps us to determine the best way to move forward in the treatment of your pain.
Treatment may involve face relaxation with the use of low frequency electric pulses or the creation of an orthotic that can be placed on the lower teeth to help move your jaw back into alignment. Other permanent solutions may include:
- A permanent orthotic placed on your lower teeth
- Invisalign®
- Lifestyle changes
Dr. Cload's extensive LVI training allows him to identify and treat the very painful disorder known as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).
Dr. Cload and his team at Southcentre Dental Clinic would be happy to discuss all the options available to you if you are suffering from any head, should, neck or jaw pain.
