Different Types of Dental Implants
If you are missing any teeth and have made the decision to get dental implants, the next step for you is determining which type of dental implant is right for you. Here at Southcentre Dental Clinic in Calgary, Dr. Steven Cload and his team will work with you to figure out which type of dental implant would work best for you based on the number of teeth you have missing, as well as your jawbone structure.
Endosteal Implants
These implants are the most common form of dental implant. The procedure involves drilling an artificial titanium root into your jawbone, which anchors it securely. Once healed, a porcelain crown or bridge can be attached firmly to the root.
Subperiosteal Implants
If your jawbone structure is a little weaker and can't support an artificial root drilled directly into the bone, a subperiosteal implant involves placing the implant so that it rests on top of the jawbone from which the porcelain crown or bridge can be attached to.
There are many advantages to having dental implants including:
Adjacent teeth are not affected
They are comfortable
They look natural
You can eat whatever you like
Can prevent bone loss
If you would like to learn more about your options for dental implants, Dr. Cload and his team at Southcentre Dental Clinic would love to set up an appointment to talk with you.
